ENCAUSTICS

Encaustic comes from the Greek word encausticos which means to burn in. Encaustic medium of bees wax and resin is melted and applied to a support. This can be done with a brush. The encaustic medium is put on in layers. Each layer is "burned" in using, in my case, a heat gun to fuse the layers together. It is the layering and fusing which builds up the
luminous quality in the final piece.
